Many years ago I became obsessively fascinated with ancient scrolls. For centuries they were the vehicles which passed information from generation to generation. How could I make my own set of scrolls to share with others?
Woven fiber became the answer as it symbolizes the weaving of human history. Soon I began dyeing natural fibers like a wild woman and drawing and painting on these canvases. I made drawings and transferred them to silk screens so the images and symbols I love could be printed and layered onto the fabrics I had dyed.
The series of thirteen scrolls you see here is the result of over one hundred scrolls I’ve made in the past ten years. Most are about 12 inches by 40 inches. I want to share them with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed making them.
